the outer bands of the circulation already over the area, especially to the south. showers will to the south. the latest track? not sure if this is the 5:00 update just coming across. but the storm track brings the centerline with landfall possibility somewhere around the delmarva peninsula. could be to the south, toward the virginia beach, all the way up to long island. the thing to remember is the hurricane status means that continuously the wind will be spreading out. that does not mean that will be a lesser storm because it is not a hurricane, in fact it could become a stronger storm. finished or preparation tomorrow, but the leaves out of the dau porches of an advance of the wind. breezy conditions sunday, rain developing during the evening monday. the wind increasing. tuesday looks like the heaviest rain and the strongest wind. a lot more to share as we go

scene near the rhode island metro station. at the entrance to the building is cordoned off where a woman was attacked in her fifth floor unit. the p of the building at 2350 washington place after a burglar broke into one of the condos at about 2:00 this afternoon. a female resident was inside and the burglar stabbed her multiple times, including in the face. the complex called rhode island road is a new committee built in front of the rhode island metro station and has a steady stream of foot traffic. >> most people have notven lived here that long. it has only been open since the summer. >> the news was alarming to these people. >> it has been pretty good. it is so easily accessible. so far, a has been ok. >> these residents say there is security requiring kefauver's to entry doors and elevators. >> they probably followed somebody into a stairwell.

complaining about what could potentially be a big problem with the voting machines. but is a a mechanical problem or a human error? jeff what is the story? >> disch here in fairfax county, the highest level of registered voters ever. both campaigns are competing hard to get voters on their side. democrats are alleging there are also problems with the voting machines. the county, though, is holding its ground. and every vote counts. >> the question in fairfax county is not whether every vote counts but whether they are being counted correctly. >> it is very straightforward. >> many voters lining up to cast in person absentee ballots are using electronic voting machines. >> it is much better than any other way. anybody can read can do this. totally efficient.

>> the fairfax county democratic committee is not so sure. they say they have received up to 15 complaints about the machines' countywide. cases where the machine actually registered a different vote. the executive director claims the machines are old and outdated. a serious problem in a year and a state like this. >> virginia will be extremely close. if even a handful of votes go the wrong way problem. >> the concerns appear to be bipartisan. this romney volunteer is encouraging voters to use paper ballots. >> there are issues. >> officials in fairfax county do not agree, saying that every complaint has been checked out and everyone cleared. >> we have yet to be able to replicate any problem with the machines. it may have been operator error but sometimes there are baseless allegations. >> democrats want to be clear

the 65-70, in that range. everything that happens here as we go through sunday night monday, tuesday, early wednesday, it depends on sandy. its future movement location, development, and speed, and what happens with the approaching cold front and the dip in the jet stream. all of those combining possibly turning sandy from a hurricane into a major hybrid post tropical storm. look at it as a hurricane turning into a giant nor'easter and that may be beginning now. top when still 75. it is weakening, and then getting rid intensified before it makes landfall. this is a spaghetti plot. this gives an idea of the general trend of most all the computer models, this radical curved back to the northwest and west monday and tuesday.

the strong deep trough of low pressure will pull on it. at the same time, the high pressure from the canadian maritime will keep it from moving out to sea. it almost has to come out to shore. how strong the be and where will it go? those are report to know, the fact is spreading so much, the wind field is spreading, the rain is spreading, that is why we are confident we will get wind and rain no matter what monday and tuesday. the circulation the isobars spinning out the wind incredibly strong. all of this is just a matter of time before it comes in. what is important about where it makes landfall, that will determine the wind direction. in our area, we know from hurricane experience if we have west wind we get off easy. if we have southeast or easter the wind, that is when we have the big flooding and pileup of water. that is why it is critical where it makes landfall. it could be anywhere from norfolk, va., to long island.

this is what the hurricane center precipitation center says, up to a foot of rain along the meeting coastline, 4-5 inches in land. over the weekend flooding rains could be exacerbated by falling leaves blocking storm drains and such. this is the weekend to check on those things. if you are afraid of losing power, those kinds of things, batteries, by nonperishable food to keep going a few days. even into wednesday morning that will be the greatest. with the most effects from sandy or whatever it is. >> preparing for the worst hoping it will not be the worst, and we see what happens. thank you. >> now it is time for your final clue in our justin bieber ticket giveaway. >> stays clue is "ticket."

>> now we turn to a tragic story from new york city. in any is under arrest and the hospital after allegedly killing two of the small children she was employed to keep safe. >> the police still have no motive for this horrible crime. >> the nanny had worked for the family of three years. the family was extremely close to the nanny. they recently paid for her to go home to visit the dominican republic and even going with her there this past year. friends say there were no warning signs but clearly they said, ortega mentally snapped.

today, a makeshift memorial outside of the upper west side apartment where the family lived. then annie remained hospitalized in critical condition and under arrest, charged with double homicide. the police say the mother returned to the apartment last night after taking her 3-year- old for a swim lesson. startled by the darkened them apartment, she went to the doorman to see if the nanny left with the other two children. when she went into the apartment, she discovered the horrible truth. that on the floor of the bathroom was the nanny who had inflicted wounds on her throat. >> the mother found her 2-year- old daughter and at 6-year-old son stabbed to death, lying in the bathtub. she was taken out of the building with her 3-year-old. her cries were agonizing. >> she was crying out, "what am i going to do with the rest of

noise in the morning. >> these are things people learned, worked hard for. to do that, they should not do it. >> in all, fire officials say eight cars have been set on fire in the upper marlboro and kettering area and 22 hours many only 50 minutes apart. one car was vandalized, the driver's side window shattered. the homeowner said the people took off when he turned on his lights. >> the next thing i knew, they hopped back in their vehicle and jetted off. >> we did not notice this at first when we came to this house, the homeowners showed us. that is the air bag from the car, all the way up in the tree. that is how forceful, how strong this fire and explosion from the air bag was the other night. luckily, nobody was hurt.

characteristics of a hurricane and become a more wide-open nor'easter with high wind and heavy rain. very impressive at the moment. the close-up, the track the next several days, monday afternoon it will be over the atlantic. that is the key point because the model say that it will turn to the west. if it stays out to sea, not much will happen. we don't think there is much of a chance of that. we think that will be forced back and the centerline and possibilities between long island and southeastern virginia, a lot of wind and rain with it. we're thinking 80% odds of heavy rain and high wind, 60% probability of wind damage and flooding. 20% chance of historic flooding or damage, and only a small chance it will not do much of anything. the marine corps marathon sunday, 54 degrees, cloudy skies. the next seven days, and only goes downhill.
